I don't believe that everybody wants a show room garden. I think most people enjoy a simple quality space to play with children, read or eat with friends.

The value of wood

People see what finished timber sells for, or the oak table in a shop and realise the potential value of timber but the tree in their garden is not worth a small fortune while it is still in the log form.

There are many steps in making a log into valuable timber or the Oak table in the shop. First and foremost the tree has to contain quality timber. The remaining steps felling, sawing, and drying all include expensive equipment and experience. By milling timber on site, I can help customers looking to realise more of the value of there home grown Timber other than just fire wood.

Wood is one of the cheapest materials in the log form and most expensive as an end product so the more you process it, the more return value you can expect from it.

Working as a tree surgeon I often get garden trees to plank and garden trees normally have to be dismantled and cut up they are difficult to move in one piece and can contain obvious defects like rot, big knots, etc.

The rewards for a large timber company are not economic. By having a mobile saw mill I can come to you and mill on site saving the enormous amounts of money and time involved in full scale forestry operations. Your timber will start to become a valuable home grown product.

A stump grinder is quick and efficient, can tackle any size stump, travel over delicate surfaces without damage and stumps can be priced individually.

No nasty stumps left in the garden

Whether you have old stumps in your garden to get rid of or would like to reseed or replant after the completion of tree work, using a stump grinder as opposed to other methods of removal has great advantages.

The stump is removed straight away, as opposed to letting the stump rot.
With a stump grinder access is rarely a problem as it can pass through a side gate.
A stump grinder does not damage lawns and other surfaces getting to and from the stump as with a tractor or tracked vehicle.
After the stump grinder has finished its work you are left with just soil and wood chip which can be used to back fill the hole as opposed to a stump and a hole when using a digger.

A natural product with no chemicals

1 Wood chips can smother herbaceous weeds, especially grasses and reduce evaporation of water from the soil surface and consequently reduce the risk of soil-moisture deficits occurring. Plants tent to be healthier as a result and the soil should require less irrigation.

2 Wood chips mixed with soil increase the amount of organic matter, resulting in loosening and improvement in the structure of heavy clays and with light sandy soils there can also be an increase in the overall water holding capacity. These two factors encourage root development.

3 Mulches also tend to have an insulating effect on the soil, reducing the rate at which heat is lost in winter.

Why the Need for Tree Surgery?

Tree Surgery is usually performed on trees for four main reasons:

To improve safety.
To improve appearance.
To improve the structure of the tree
To improve light and reduce shade

Tree Surgery actions that can be carried out at any time of year:

Dealing with problems Caused by dangerous trees
Felling, Crown Lifting and Dead wooding
Crown thinning and line clearance

Tree Surgery actions at different periods in the season:

1. Work that strips the tree of all its leaves such as radical Crow reductions is best carried out at the end of the summer season, this puts the tree under less stress as it coincides with the trees natural seasonal rhythm.

2. Some trees bleed if cut late in the dormant season. Trees that bleed are Acer and Silver Birch both bleed if pruned Feb- April. Walnut is also a notable exception and should be pruned when in leaf.

Environmental sustainability

Increasing pressure on our environment means that the role of the tree surgeon is becoming more and more important. More houses are being built, more cables over and under ground are being laid, more roads are being built, all of which have a direct and indirect effect on our trees.

Trees that cause problems to houses, telephone cables or traffic circulation is a major part of our work.

Indirectly pollution and climate change is causing stress in tree populations and burning of rubbish is becoming more and more unacceptable this is why as part of our environmental policy we recycle all our arisings into wood chips.
